Genesis 1:29 “And God said, ‘Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.’”
The Agri-Business Program at Africa Hope Ministries (AHM) in Nsaru, Malawi, known as the Daystar Ranch, is a faith-integrated farming initiative aimed at fostering self-sufficiency, nutritional security, and economic empowerment in a rural community plagued by poverty and food insecurity. Launched as part of AHM’s broader mission to “reach beyond the dust,” it complements other programs like feeding and vocational training by producing local crops to sustain operations while teaching sustainable agricultural practices.
Goals and Focus

- Sustainability and Self-Reliance: To reduce dependency on external donations for food supplies, generate income through crop sales, and equip youth and families with skills for long-term livelihoods.
- Holistic Integration: Aligns with Christian discipleship by viewing work in agriculture as a God-given calling, promoting stewardship of the land while addressing malnutrition and unemployment.
Activities and Operations
- Land and Crop Management: The ranch involves land preparation, planting, and harvesting cycles, with a focus on staple crops like maize (supported by tools such as a maize sheller for processing). Recent efforts include seasonal tilling and irrigation improvements.
- Infrastructure Development: Features a newly installed well providing clean water for irrigation and livestock, enhancing productivity in the dry Nsaru region.
- Training and Community Involvement: Incorporates hands-on workshops for program participants, including youth from the Discipleship Feeding Program and residents of the Elizabeth House of Hope, blending farming education with Bible-based teachings on diligence and gratitude.
- Scale: Operates on dedicated ranch land adjacent to the AHM Nsaru Center, serving as a demonstration site for small-scale, climate-resilient farming techniques suitable for local households.

Impact
The program has bolstered AHM’s ability to feed over 130 children weekly, reduced costs for ministry supplies, and inspired community members to adopt similar practices—leading to improved household incomes and reduced vulnerability to hunger. As of late 2024, updates highlight excitement over thriving crops and preparations for the 2025 planting season, underscoring its role in building resilient futures.
